Making Chester Makaton-friendly

Vivo Care Choices is supporting a campaign to make Chester the first Makaton-friendly city in the UK.

More than 100,000 people in the UK depend on Makaton, a language programme that helps children and adults with communication difficulties. This includes those with:

  • learning disabilities
  • autism
  • physical disabilities
  • sensory impairments
  • development language disorders (DLD)
  • acquired aphasia (stroke)
  • dementia
  • English as a second language.

Many organisations, including Vivo, have people using their services who depend on Makaton.

A launch event is being held at Storyhouse in Chester on Friday 12 July from 4-4.45pm, aiming to get at least 50 organisations committed to becoming Makaton-friendly.

If you are interested in attending, you can sign up for free online.
