Vivo Care Choices, which recently moved to Cheshire West and Chester Council as an in-house service, has introduced a brand-new service at Lightfoot Lodge to support older people throughout the day who have been diagnosed with dementia.

Not only is Lightfoot Lodge the head office for Vivo, but it also provides support to people with learning disabilities and autism, including projects like the Eye Opener Group, which makes arts and crafts ready to sell.

This new dementia service is open from 9am to 5pm on a Monday to Friday and will add to the hub of activity already taking place at Lightfoot Lodge.

As one of the building’s wings was recently renovated to make room for the new service, it has a warm and homely feel so people diagnosed with dementia can socialise in a safe and supportive environment and take part in engaging and therapeutic activities they enjoy.

Tina, who recently joined the team for the new dementia service, is already finding her role extremely rewarding.

She said: “I started in early May and had previously been working as a companion, supporting people with their cooking, paperwork, shopping, taking them out and more generally keeping them company.

“My mum, who has sadly passed away now, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia and used to visit Curzon House.

“I’d take her there and felt comfortable leaving her, knowing how kind all the staff were and how much they cared for her.

“Everyone has been lovely and really welcoming since I started here and it’s been nice meeting all the people who visit our services and their families.

“It’s very rewarding as I think you recognise how much their families need our support and we’ve had a lot of positive feedback about how welcoming the place feels.

“We have three different rooms so we can take people somewhere different should they feel it’s too busy for them or do something different.

“The service is growing all the time and we’re putting all the steps in place based on what each person wants and needs, matching them with staff who have similar interests.”

Both referrals from social workers and self funders are welcomed. For more information about this new service or to make a referral, please contact Laura Penk: or 07731 983817.
