Vivo Care Choices’ brand-new Work and Voluntary Enterprise (WAVE) programme is helping people lead a healthier and happier life and become more independent.
WAVE is a 12-week programme delivered to people using Vivo’s learning disability day services and, after a pilot of the project was first launched in January 2022, they’ll soon be celebrating passing the half-way point.
The programme will provide people with the skills, knowledge and experience so they can meet new people, become more confident, feel part of the community, take pride in what they do and have a real sense of achievement, helping them get ready for employment or volunteering.
A clear timeline has been set out for each of the weeks so people can learn a range of new skills, such as daily living, self-care, communication, numeracy, IT and digital, health and safety, first aid, appropriate clothing in the workplace and much more.
A 12-week voluntary placement is available once the programme has been completed, whether it be with Vivo or another organisation. Vivo’s Little Roodee Café, Diverse Designs shop and other projects all provide development opportunities.
Alistair Jeffs, Managing Director of Vivo Care Choices, said: “We want to be at the heart of the community and provide opportunities for the people we support to prosper.
“We’re very proud of the outcomes the likes of the Little Roodee Café and Diverse Designs achieve for the people we support and our new WAVE programme provides another route for people to get into volunteering or employment.
“Staff will continue to work with the people they usually support as part of the programme, guiding them on their journey.
“We’re very excited to see the outcomes this programme will achieve in the future as the people we support are already loving being involved, developing a range of new skills.”
