Vivo Care Choices is aiming to create plenty of new opportunities for the people it supports, as well as their carers and family members, through the new National Disability Strategy.

A Disability Survey was launched in January 2021 and ran until April, with thousands of people responding to inform the National Disability Strategy, including disabled people, families and carers. This adds to a wider programme of engagement that has been running since February 2020.

The following key areas of focus have been set out in the National Disability Strategy.

  • Employment
  • Living independently in the community
  • Technology
  • Tackling loneliness
  • Accessibility

Part one looks at the actions that need to take place now, with practical steps to improve disabled people’s everyday lives, part two focuses on the long-term ambition to put disabled people at the heart of how services are designed and delivered, and part three sets out actions across various departments in both local and national government.

Alistair Jeffs, Managing Director of Vivo, said: “The new National Disability Strategy highlights a number of commitments to improve the lives of disabled people.

“At Vivo, we’re looking forward to seeing how it develops and using it to create more opportunities for the people we support.

“A number of the themes in the strategy are things the people we support have been mentioning to us for a number of the years so they’re really pleased to see some action in these areas.

“We’ll continue providing the people we support with a strong voice in the community to make sure the strategy creates positive outcomes for them moving forward.

“We have ambitions for Vivo to be an integral part of the local community more than ever before, creating opportunities for everyone to enjoy their lives to the full.”
