After joining Vivo Care Choices’ supported living services as a Support Worker back in January, Deb Waller is one of many members of staff who have found themselves at the forefront of the response to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Despite the challenges COVID-19 has brought, staff across Vivo’s services have adapted to make sure everyone has the care and support they need.

Deb and her team at Overdene Drive in Winsford are providing invaluable care for people with learning disabilities and autism in supported houses, making sure they continue to enjoy life to the full in line with the latest guidance from the Government and NHS.

On her time at Vivo so far, Deb said: “I love looking after the ladies in our houses.

“It’s a nice environment to work in and the other support workers, service coordinators and managers are all really supportive.

“Everyone is coming together and helping each other wherever they can. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team work so well together before.

“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from carers and families and it’s nice to hear they’re happy with what we’re doing for their loved ones.

“We’ve bought one of the ladies a tablet so she can do video calls and keep in contact with her family.

“I like to think that, if this was my mum or dad in care, this is how they would be treated.”

Although Deb has only recently started her career in the care sector, it’s something she is going to persist.

She added: “One of my friends works in one of the other supported houses so she gave me an application form.

“I never really thought I’d work with the elderly or adults with learning disabilities before, but I’ve taken to it like a duck to water.

“I absolutely love what I do and I’m really pleased I decided to start working at Vivo.”

Janice Fryer, Vivo Director of Operations, said: “Our staff have gone above and beyond over the last couple of months to make sure we continue to provide care for the people we support.

“We like to create a friendly and supportive environment for all our staff and it’s great to see how much Deb is enjoying her role at Vivo.

“The work Deb and all other Vivo staff are doing is making a real difference to the people we support, as well as their carers and families.”
